Course Description:
This 2hr CME accredited roundtable dinner program will discuss how metabolic syndrome is defined, its prevalence and risk factor distributions, relation to cardiovascular disease and methods for assessment of cardiovascular risk, and ABC’s of clinical management, as well as strategies for clinical management of the metabolic syndrome, including specific issues related to management of dyslipidemia, hypertension and obesity.

Course Objectives: Following this activity, participants should be able to:
  1. Understand how to easily define and identify the metabolic syndrome in the clinic office
  2. Understand the relation of the metabolic syndrome to diabetes and future risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality
  3. Understand the tools and tests used to best evaluate future cardiovascular risk in persons with the metabolic syndrome
  4. Understand the evidence behind aggressive risk factor management for Dyslipidemia and hypertension in persons with metabolic syndrome and diabetes

Target Audience: Primary care physicians, Cardiologists, Endocrinologists and Nurse Practitioners
